Nina Adkins - Watermedia
The colors and mountains of New Mexico have influenced my painting style for many years. There are no other colors like the blues of the New Mexico sky, or the wild colors that we see in our sunsets. I believe my love of all these colors is largely a result of having to live away from them for several years in a wet and dreary climate.
I work in water media and collage. Water media is watercolor, acrylic, acrylic grounds, and hand-painted papers or altered pictures. I consider myself an experimental painter because I like to work with new materials.
I have been in many juried exhibits and have been active in art groups like the New Mexico Watercolor Society, the Society of Layerists in Multi Media, and the National League of American Penwomen, and the Rio Grande Art Association. I am in two galleries in Albuquerque: Yucca Gallery in Old Town and the Gallery ABQ in the Hoffmantown Shopping Center.
