Kevin Dooley - Painting

My journey as an artist began in childhood, when I started drawing and painting before entering elementary school. My father, an accomplished artist who exhibited his work and received recognition in juried shows, was an important early influence and mentor. His encouragement helped foster my lifelong connection to creativity.

More than fifty years ago, I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I developed a deep appreciation for the landscapes, history, and cultures of the Southwest. Traveling throughout New Mexico and the surrounding states, I became inspired by the region’s vast deserts, dramatic skies, historic communities, and the enduring spirit of the people who call the West home.

Although I continued creating art throughout my adult life, my artistic pursuits competed with two demanding careers — first in criminal justice and later as a college educator in that field. After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees, I eventually devoted myself fully to painting, allowing art to become the central focus and most rewarding adventure of my life. I have been a member of Yucca Art Gallery for three years and am a member of multiple art associations. I am also a member of the Albuquerque Artists Business Association.
