After growing up in Connecticut, Katie Thomas relocated to Albuquerque and subsequently to Taos, NM in 2007 for an HR job. That position went away in 2009 and having relocated to a rural community with limited opportunities, she bought a small retail store called The Import Outlet and renamed the shop Moxie. It was at this time that she really began exploring different art mediums and selling her art in her shop. Living in an art community inspired by other artists and the beautiful natural surroundings started a passion for exploring different art mediums.

 

She has since relocated to Placitas to be closer to healthcare, an airport and four grandchildren. She now. spends her time creating mixed media art in many mediums including clay, paper, paint, textiles, beading, wood, and rusty found items. She loves to push the boundaries by combining various materials, and especially likes to incorporate recycled jewelry in her art. She serves on the Board of Directors for
the Placitas Studio Tour and the art committee for the Placitas Community Library.
