Screen Shot 2025-10-03 at 4.29.54 PM.png

Kelsey VanDemark is a bookbinder and leatherworker living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She creates a variety of unique journals from sustainable materials, including tree-free banana paper, leather, handwoven cotton textiles and crystal and bone pendants. The book making process involves many steps, from making and pressing text blocks, stamping and staining leather, coffee staining paper and hand painting designs onto leather. Kelsey collaborates with nature and the elements to infuse sunlight, rain, wind, and the stars into her work. Kelsey has been making journals for 11 years and enjoys playing with color, texture, and natural materials. She is inspired by the cultures and landscapes of the places she has traveled, such as Bali, Peru, and Ireland, and she incorporates pendants, stones, and textiles from these places into her work.
